Diodes Incorporated's new LED driver AL1696 is suitable for a wide range of Triac dimmable lighting applications, especially retrofit lamps. The AL1696 can be used in buck or buck-boost topology, with a critical conduction mode for constant current conversion and high power factor. It also reduces switching noise, which simplifies the EMI/EMC test and certification process. This design requires only a single-winding inductor to achieve ±3% current sensing accuracy. With a low operating current of 120μA and a startup current of 150μA, the device is compatible with a variety of Leading-edge and Trailing-edge dimmers, and is compliant with the American Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) SSL6.
